Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it's time to take action against cancer.
Relay for Life means a lot to our WARDies, as many of our skaters have loved ones that have fought, and some unfortunately lose their lives to, various cancers. Brawnnie Lott says, "The success stories are amazing but there are still far to many losses. Relay for Life events bring us together in our communities to raise funds, awareness, and a support system. I believe we have others on the team that have similar stories. We even have our own WARDie survivors." In addition, our very own Shorty Rae Leonard is the event chair for the City of Winters Relay for Life, and has been for all four years of existence. Shorty says of the event, "Bringing the event to my small town was special and amazing so having WARD support our efforts made it even more meaningful for me."
WALk MS- national multiple sclerosis society
Walk MS is a charity walk series that takes place in over 550 locations with more than 300,000 people participating annually. We've been walking since 1988 and to-date have raised more than $970 million to drive groundbreaking research, provide life-changing services, and guarantee a supportive community for those who need it most. When you participate in Walk MS, you are helping create a world free of multiple sclerosis. Together, we become a powerful force. Together, we will end MS forever.
WARD joined Walk MS through a friend of Stabitha, an NSO at bouts, that participates in the yearly event. WARD's name was given to an event coordinator and the team manned one of the stops on the walk. WARD has sponsored a walk stop every year since. This just goes to show that being a friend to WARD means friendships that go beyond derby.
