Roller Derby: My Newest Passion in Life
...you could even say it's my newest obsession. I knew I was hooked when I took my first hit. I'll never forget the smile that came across my face as I was sent flying through the air and then thinking Weeeee, this is fun! Derby is the perfect release for my pent up aggression, not to mention an excellent workout.
I've stayed up late to watch YouTube videos about anything derby related, then I'll fall asleep with the ambition of being like Suzy Hotrod jamming around in my dreams (she's my new Michael Jordan). I'll spend some more time watching practice videos and researching the many different wheel options, because seriously, there's A LOT. I'm still reading through the newest rules put out by WFTDA, and I've been trying to find whatever game play strategies are available online. Basically, I'm just trying to soak up as much derby knowledge as possible. My husband has said to me, "Are you STILL (insert anything mentioned above)!?"
To him I reply, "I just can't get enough!"
And then there are the girls, my teammates. They've made me feel like I've been part of the pack since day one. Their support, encouragement, and advice has been priceless. It's been a long time since I've felt the camaraderie of a team, it's just awesome.
I've only been at this for a few months but I couldn't imagine life without roller derby.
